Prof. Dr. Mitsuko Takei visits Aschaffenburg UAS

Aschaffenburg UAS was able to welcome a guest from the Land of the Rising Sun in the first week of the spring term: Professor Mitsuko Takei, Director International Affairs Centre of the Hiroshima Shudo University (HSU), currently the only Japanese partner institution of Aschaffenburg UAS.

During her visit, Prof. Takei familiarised herself with Aschaffenburg’s campus and gave a presentation about the courses of study at the HSU which has more than 6,000 students in five faculties and is almost twice as large as Aschaffenburg UAS. The Japanese guest was impressed by the university’s facilities and expressed great interest in its international activities, such as the Summer School, International Project Week, International Language Week and the German intensive courses in the summer.

Professor Takei draws a positive conclusion of her visit: "It was really a lovely stay and seeing is believing! Now I can recommend Aschaffenburg as a wonderful study abroad destination to HSU students. I hope we can send out our students in the very near future and look forward to welcoming the two students in the fall."

This winter, the first two students from the Faculty of Business Administration and Law will spend one semester in Hiroshima. Due to the university-wide agreement with the HSU, also students from the Faculty of Engineering have this option. This requires Japanese language skills of at least one year so that the prior completion of Japanese I and II is recommended; both courses at Aschaffenburg UAS are taught by a teacher whose native tongue is Japanese. Those who want to get a taste of the HSU only, can do so as part of a four-week "Summer Japanese Language and Culture Program".
Shortly before the counter-visit from Japan, Prof Dr Renate Link, Vice Head of the Language Centre and initiator of the partnership, had paid a brief visit to the HSU. With respect to the time she spent on the campus in Hiroshima, she can only confirm the conclusion of her Japanese colleague for Aschaffenburg and return the compliment to her Japanese colleagues.
