Opening Ceremony of the International Language Week

(Almost) the Whole World Visiting h-ab

Last week, the Language Centre of h-ab hosted its second "International Language Week including Intercultural Communication". The initiator and coordinator of the week, Prof. Dr. Renate Link, was delighted to be able to welcome guest lecturers from three continents. In contrast to the first International Language Week in 2015, not only European but also Asian and US-American visitors were present: 12 guests from partner universities in Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Slovakia, South Korea, Taiwan and the USA accepted the invitation. Among these, there were the three partner universities recently recruited by Prof. Dr. Link: the Montana State University in Billings/USA, the Sungshin University in Seoul/South Korea and the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus/Greece. In 23 lectures, the guest lecturers taught languages and/or intercultural communication and presented their home institutions to show the possibilities of studying abroad to h-ab students. At the booths of the first newly introduced networking and partner fair as well as during their university presentations, the exhibitors were supported by the exchange students from their home universities currently studying at h-ab.

The extended framework program of this year's International Language Week allowed the guest lecturers to broaden their horizon in four academic workshops on social media, innovative training methods, intercultural test design and Japanese calligraphy. In the evenings, network events , a welcome dinner, a guided city tour and a visit to Aschaffenburg’s Christmas Market were part of the programme.

The next "International Language Week including Intercultural Communication" is scheduled for the winter semester 2019 in order to release further synergies of language, intercultural communication and international mobility.
