Over 800 first semester students will be taking up their studies at the TH Aschaffenburg this October

This winter semester 2019/2020, a total of 842 first semester students will be beginning their studies at the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. “With its practically based study programmes, our university offers you excellent opportunities to shape your future,” stressed Professor Eva-Maria Beck-Meuth, President of the TH Aschaffenburg, as she welcomed the new students last Tuesday.

Once again, particularly popular subjects among this year’s intake are Business Administration, which has 121 first semester students, Business Administration and Law, with 138 new students, and Business Administration (for SMEs), with 45 students in the first semester. Technical subjects also continue to be in high demand, with around 460 students commencing their courses this semester, representing a slight increase compared to last year. This time round, it is the Industrial Engineering programme with 74 first semester students, that takes first place, followed by the Multimedia Communication and Documentation programme with 67 new students. A total of 64 new students enrolled in International Technical Sales Management, representing the biggest rise compared with the year 2018.
The new Medical Engineering and Data Science programme started with 48 students, of whom nearly half are women. Eva-Maria Beck-Meuth is delighted with the high take-up by women, and points out, “the expansion of our course offers in the Faculty of Engineering has led to the creation of an attractive study programme, particularly with regard to the ongoing rise in digitalisation”.

Klaus Herzog, the lord mayor of Aschaffenburg, was also in attendance at the campus in the Würzburger Strasse, where he welcomed the new students and gave them his best wishes for their studies.

A number of student mentors (students in the higher semesters) had spent the last few months planning and preparing the orientation days for new students. These always take place on the first two days in October and are designed to ease the transition into student life. A number of events were held that gave new students a first chance to get to know each other, in the form of a city rally, a tour of the campus, and the ‘Campus Wiesn’ at the end of the second day. The first day of lectures for all students was 7 October 2019.
