South American TH student Elis José Dorante Pérez receives award of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

This year, the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences (TH Aschaffenburg) found the academic achievement and the social and intercultural commitment of the foreign student Elis José Dorante Pérez outstanding and therefore awarded him the DAAD prize. "Mr. Dorante Pérez is a fascinating personality. He expresses this with his high level of social commitment and his courage to start studying again in a foreign country," emphasizes Prof. Dr. Holger Paschedag, the university`s Vice President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs. Last Friday, he presented the business administration student from South America with the award, which comes with 1,000 euros in prize money. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides the universities with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA) for this award.

Due to the difficult political and economic situation in his home country Venezuela, Elis José Dorante Pérez came to Germany in 2017, shortly before he was able to complete his studies there. In the meantime he is studying business administration at TH Aschaffenburg in the sixth semester.
After his arrival in Germany, he volunteered in literacy courses for refugees and also supported the nursing staff of a retirement home on a voluntary basis. At the moment, he is responsible as a dormitory tutor for making all residents feel welcome, organising events and helping his fellow students to solve possible problems in the dormitory.
