The COVID-19 pandemic has put us all on a fast track to acquiring new digital skills in an increasingly interconnected world. As a matter of fact, virtual or hybrid formats or forms of communication and collaboration are here to stay and will even grow in importance when the pandemic is over.

In the framework of an online Conference entitled “Intercultural Competence and Foreign Language Learning in Higher Education – Present and Future Directions” hosted on 1 and 2 July 2021 by the University of Exeter Prof. Dr. Alexandra Angress and Prof. Dr. Sylvana Krauße presented their work and findings on designing and running International Project Days in an interactive online format. This included lessons learned from the digital environment and the didactic approach adopted as framework for successful student interaction as well as first encouraging results from an accompanying student survey.

The talk was based on one of the selected proposals for the conference and part of a series of inspiring and enlightening presentations engaging the audience from across the globe in relevant discussions on how to address interculturality in the language classroom and beyond.
