The form and function of many products is mainly determined by the materials used to create them. Modern materials such as electricity-conducting synthetics or extremely light bonding materials make it possible to develop new products with new functions through new technologies. New materials also have a prominent role in the development of new micro- and nanotechnologies as well as photonics.

The Materials research group offer comprehensive knowledge und excellent facilities in the field of materials and microsystem technology, optical technologies and biomaterials. Through the Materials Transfer Centre the current infrastructure will be modernised for the development, characterisation and usage of new materials, especially in the areas of microsystem technology and microelectronics, optics, and life sciences. The focus is on creating the basis for sustainable research and development activities with exchange between research and technical applications.

The Materials research group is divided into two main sections:

  • Materials
  • Nano- und microsystems
