The Future of Libraries is Open (FOLIO)

Switching to a new open source library system

Exciting and challenging weeks lie ahead for the University Library: After almost 30 years, we are migrating our library system to FOLIO. FOLIO is a modern open source system that we will use to manage almost all of our processes. We will also be using a new library catalogue.

Large parts of the changeover will take place in the background without you as a user noticing much of it.

From September 2025, however, the effects will also be noticeable for you. From 3 September to probably 30 September 2025, we will transfer your library account and your loan data to the new system. In preparation for this system changeover, we will have to restrict some services and ask for your understanding.

    Service restrictions until probably 30.09.2025:
    • Books that you have borrowed from other libraries (interlibrary loan) must be returned before migration. We will request these books back from you in due course and ask for your co-operation. If you still need these titles, you can order them via interlibrary loan from the Hofbibliothek Aschaffenburg (see next point).
    • Interlibrary loan at the TH Aschaffenburg is not possible right now, please use the interlibrary loan service of the Hofbibliothek Aschaffenburg for loans over the semester break.
    • To register at the Hofbibliothek please bring either an identity card or a passport with a current registration certificate.
    • Please note: Lists in the library catalogue will not be transferred. Unfortunately it is not possible anymore to export these.
    • Reservations and renewals of borrowed media are not possible anymore.
    • Access to your library account is unfortunately not possible anymore.
    • Borrowing books via the self-service lending station is unfortunately not possible anymore.
    • Use of automatic pay station (in the library) is unfortunately not possible anymore to pay library fees, however you can still charge your CampusCard.
  2. These services will continue to be available as before during the changeover:
    • Use of the library as a place to study and work
    • Research in the library catalogue
    • Access to e-media (e-books, e-journals, databases)
    • Borrowing media at the service desk
    • Returning media at the service desk and via the return flap

The system changeover will not result in any disadvantages for you in terms of loan periods, automatic renewals or media recalls. The restrictions have been taken into account when calculating return periods, so that you benefit from longer loan periods.
