Information for the start of the study

We are happy to welcome you at Aschaffenburg UAS. Here we provide some important information about starting your studies for you.

Bachelor degree programmes

Your studies will begin with the introductory events for first-year students on 30 September and 01 October 2025. The mentors of the individual study programmes are preparing a comprehensive all-day programme for your start.

More information on the introductory days can be found on the German-language homepage under the following link: https://www.th-ab.de/erstsemester

Master degree programmes

At the beginning of the winter semester, introductory events take place in the Master degree programmes. You will receive further information on this by e-mail.

  • Health insurance

    • Do I need health insurance?
Yes! To enrol at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, you will need to show valid proof of health insurance. Valid health insurance is essential! Without valid health insurance, you will not be enrolled; you will not receive your campus card; you will not be able to attend the exams. Further information can be found on the Study in Germany website.

    • Which options of health insurance do I have?
You can have German statutory health insurance or German private health insurance or foreign private health insurance.

    • How do I take out a German statutory health insurance policy?
You can take out a policy online before you come to Germany (or in person once you are here). For instance, often, there is the option to choose statutory health insurance when you open a blocked account via a third-party provider.

    • How do I find a German statutory health insurance provider?
There are many German statutory health insurance providers you can choose from (look below geöffnet in for an insurance provider that is either bundesweit or Bayern). Here are some German health insurance providers and how to contact them:
TK (Link) - DAK (Link) - AOK Bayern (Email) - Barmer (Email)

    • What do I need to do if I have private health insurance?  It is possible to have insurance that is equivalent to German health insurance (i.e. private insurance). In this case you would have to apply for an exemption to compulsory German health insurance. To confirm if your private (German or foreign) health insurance will be recognised, please contact a German statutory health insurance provider before you take out a policy back home (or once you arrive in Germany) – they will look at the terms and conditions of the insurance. If your private health insurance is recognized, the German statutory health insurance provider will give you a digital confirmation (called M10) certifying that you are exempt.

    • What do I need to show for enrolment? To enrol, you will need to show valid proof of health insurance. If you decide on a private health insurance policy, we will receive the digital confirmation (M10) directly from the German statutory health insurance provider which you contacted. This can be a lengthy process, so please make sure to start well in advance if you want to go this route.

    • Is there anything special I should be aware of?
Insurance policies for students often become active with the start of the semester (15 September for the winter semester / 15 March for the summer semester). If you arrive before the official start of the semester, you may not be covered by your insurance policy. Please make sure that you have sufficient insurance cover for the days between your arrival and the start of the semester.

    • Is there any extra information that the health insurance provider should know?
Please let the insurance provider know that you will be enrolled at Technische Hochschule Aschaffenburg (Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences).

    • How can I get more information?
TK health insurance has kindly sent us offers for short webinars that explain the most important steps you need to take: Sign up here to take part in a webinar with TK.
