During the visit of the Vice-Chancellor of Christ University Bangalore to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg, the foundation stone was laid for a new international university partnership.

On 7 November 2025, the Vice-Chancellor of Christ University Bangalore, Prof. Chacko Chennattuserry, was a guest at Aschaffenburg UAS. Together with President Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Beck-Meuth and Vice President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ivo Schäfer, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This represents an important basis for future cooperation between the two universities.

Christ University is one of the most prestigious private universities in India. It was founded in 1831 by the religious order of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) and is now one of the highest-ranked universities in the country, offering a wide range of subjects. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, it ranked 63rd in the ‘Universities’ category and 24th in the ‘Law’ category. It is also listed among the world's top 1401+ in the QS World University Ranking and has received numerous awards, including from India Today and the Economic Times Education Excellence Awards 2025. Christ University sees itself as a ‘nurturing ground for holistic development’. This mission statement is also reflected in its strong social initiatives, including the ‘Centre for Social Action’, which supports over 10,000 families in five Indian states every year.

Getting to know the city and campus and gaining an insight into research

During his two-hour visit, Professor Chennattuserry was first given a short guided tour of Aschaffenburg, stopping at Johannisburg Castle, the old town and the historic Mother of God Parish Church (‘Zu unserer Lieben Frau’).

This was followed by lunch together in the canteen and a tour of the campus. Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Keil presented examples of the university's modern research and teaching laboratories, including the areas of ‘Intelligent Systems – Electronics and Electric Drives’ and ‘Intelligent Sensors and Signals’. This gave Professor Chacko Chennattuserry an insight into current research projects and the practical laboratory work carried out at Aschaffenburg UAS.

Partnership for research, teaching and exchange

By signing the MoU, both universities have laid the foundation for long-term scientific cooperation. Among other things, joint research activities, international teaching cooperation, exchange programmes for students and teachers, and an in-depth intercultural partnership are planned.

Both universities are looking forward to the collaboration and are already planning the first concrete projects for students and researchers. The visit and the signing of the MoU were thus an important step in expanding the international activities of TH Aschaffenburg.
