Learning German in Aschaffenburg

Teilnehmende beim Deutschintensivkurs 2025

Aschaffenburg UAS’ summer school attracts students from Asia once again

For the eighth time in a row, German language courses were held as a summer school at Aschaffenburg UAS. From 4 to 28 August, nearly 20 students from Japan and South Korea attended two four-week intensive German courses for beginners – and not only learned the language, but also got to know the country and its people.

Language, culture and encounters

In addition to language lessons, participants gained insights into campus life: they visited the Skills Lab of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and were invited to three master's colloquia of the English-language International Management programme with a focus on Asia.

Contact with the local population also played an important role: at a retirement home, the language learners talked to residents, played games together and tried out their first German skills. The programme was rounded off with cultural activities such as a visit to a vineyard and the Aschaffenburg city festival.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ivo Schäfer, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs, presented the certificates. The participants gave short statements in German about their experiences over the past month. Prof. Dr. Renate Link, initiator of the Summer School, was delighted with the constant demand, especially from long-standing partner universities such as Sungshin University (South Korea) and Hiroshima Shudo University (Japan).

A joint barbecue on campus rounded off the four weeks – with Professor Schäfer himself at the grill.

The unanimous conclusion of all participants: this Summer School brings Aschaffenburg and Asia a step closer together!
